This year London plays host to the Olympic Games. With the aim of implementing one of the fundamental principles of the Olympic Charter, which states, inter alia, that Olympism blends sports with arts, culture and education, Lahd Gallery is launching its Summer Olympics Art Exhibition, as part of the celebrations for the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London in 2012. This exhibition fosters a synergy between the worlds of art and sport at national and international level and to enhance the perception of the link between these two areas.

Works on display include Arabic Calligraphy where this genre will be traced to its historical origins and explores how it has developed into an exacting craft of high aesthetic sensibility. The gallery also indulges the viewer to a diverse selection of mystical objects, framed by the artist Irini Gonou, a Greek/Arabic artist who seeks to explore the healing power of the written word as a specific cultural idiom and takes the form of a dialogue between the Greek and Arabic cultures. The founding values of the Olympic Games of excellence, friendship and respect will be developed and envisaged in different ways by our artists and they are interpreted and depicted in all of the artworks on display. This summer will prove to be one of the most memorable display of arts and sports in London.
